The MBCT program has been developed to follow a structure which includes attending a class once a week throughout the course, where you have the benefit of being able to discuss with the teacher how the meditation practice is going. It is this combination of class-led and home-based meditation practice that has been proven to combat depression so successfully. At the moment there are not many classes available in the healthcare system, leading some people to take the initiative to look after their moods on their own. Fortunately, there are a number of ways of doing so.
- One option is to follow the 8 week online Mindful Mood Balance program at MindfulNoggin.com, which is based on MBCT.
- Another approach would be through using the Mindful Way Workbook: An 8-Week Program to Free Yourself from Depression and Emotional Distress or as outlined in The Mindful Way Through Depression, both of which include CDs of mindfulness practices and materials used in the Program.
If, in time, you hear that MBCT is being offered locally, then we do recommend that you participate in the class and experience going through it with others, often a powerful source of learning in itself.
